Contro i condizionamenti di un clima ostile, l’azienda di Castelnuovo Berardenga si appresta a raccogliere i primi buoni risultati della vendemmia
Anche per Villa a Sesta è giunto il tempo della vendemmia. Un momento cruciale, durante il quale si tirano le somme e, oltre all’uva, si raccolgono i frutti di un intero anno di lavoro e fatica. “Abbiamo iniziato a vendemmiare il 23 agosto” fanno sapere dall’azienda. “L’ annata ha imposto un po’ di anticipo per via di questo caldo torrido, che ha inevitabilmente accelerato la 
maturazione delle uve, e delle condizioni di salute delle piante, fortemente provate dalla calura estiva ed impossibilitate perciò a portare avanti la maturazione in modo ottimale”. Difficoltà considerevoli, ma prontamente fronteggiate con alcuni interventi mirati: “Abbiamo preso per tempo alcune misure indispensabili, come lo sfoltimento delle piante e la creazione di solchi nel terreno al fine di trattenere la poca acqua presente”. Pratiche fondamentali, che hanno permesso di ottenere risultati inaspettatamente buoni in termini di qualità: “Abbiamo raccolto un Merlot ottimo che, andando oltre le più rosee aspettative, presenta un buon equilibrio ed una buona maturità delle bucce”. Le premesse fanno, dunque, ben sperare e prospettano una seconda raccolta altrettanto proficua: “Terminata questa raccolta, aspettiamo con ansia la pioggia preannunciata per il fine settimana, che ci permetterà di vendemmiare tra una quindicina di giorni il Sangiovese. In ogni caso, il fatto di esserci premuniti ed aver avuto le giuste accortezze per quest’annata ci rende fiduciosi per il futuro”.

Grape harvest at Villa a Sesta: well begun…
Despite the adverse climatic conditions, the Castelnuovo Berardenga winery is about to reap the first good fruits of the harvest
It’s grape harvest time in Villa a Sesta. A crucial moment when you reap not only grape but also the fruits of the whole year’s hard work. “We started harvesting on the 23rd of August” says the winery. “This year scorching heat forced us to start a little earlier since it had inevitably accelerated the grape’s ripening and exhausted the plants which were no longer able to optimally grow”. Great difficulties that have been faced with some focused interventions. “We took some necessary measures like thinning the plants or creating furrows in the ground to retain the water”. Important actions that brought unexpected good results in terms of quality. “We harvested an optimal Merlot that, beyond the rosiest expectations, has a good balance and a good ripening of the rinds”. A good start that bodes well for a second as much fruitful harvest. “When this harvest is over, we eagerly wait for the forecasted rain that, in two weeks, will allow us to harvest the Sangiovese. In any case, thanks to the provisions we took for this year, we are now confident for the future”.
