Haverst will take place in two different periods at Querce Bettina
With this method this winery from Montalcino will solve some the problems caused by this hot, dry summer

Within the end of summer it’s time to make some plans also at Querce Bettina. The previews of harvest 2017 aren’t encouraging: the hydrometer measured only 45 mm of rain during the last 4 months. A really torrid summer, which is totally the contrary of the 2014, when the colture were instead demaged by the exceeding of rain. Fruit and forest plants suffered a lot and only during the next spring it will be possible to calculate the real damages. Vines and olive trees resisted to this torrid summer, but sacrificing a great part of the harvest: the fruits fell prematurely and were burnt by the sun.
At this moment the ripening is not at its best. We still miss the polyfenolic anticians which are responsable of flavours and aromas. Gradation and sugar level are good instead. This year, to solve this problem, the harvest will take place in two different periods: the first one begun on the 12th of September and gathered only the most concentrated grapes. The second one will take place 10 days later and this will assure a more complete ripening. In September we will have great quantities of rain( up to 100 mm only on the next 10 days). This thing will not help the vines, but at least will be useful for olive trees. The quantity of grapes, unfortunately, will not allow the production of sangiovese jam to take place, so this year we won’t have one of the most typical product of this winery. Querce Bettina, after 2014, when it had to renounce to produce its prestigious Brunello, always had produced excellent vintages till nowadays instead. The 2017, which is gonna be influenced by the actual climatic conditions, will be a vintage to fully discover anyway…
