Excellent vintage for the quality of the grapes

Tenuta Viglione in Santeramo in Colle: great satisfaction for production 2020

Harvest was postponed this year in Tenuta Viglione, with its 130 hectares of vineyards distributed between the municipalities of Santeramo, Acquaviva delle Fonti and Gioia del Colle. The constantly high temperatures have delayed the ripening of the grapes, even if the diversity of the territories both as soil and as altitude, allows to compensate and mediate those that may be adversities that affect certain areas. In general, the production of the farm did not suffer much from the water scarcity complained about in other parts of the region. The frost in April caused little damage, so much so that overall production is even higher than last year, despite a drop of about 30% on the annual average.

The harvest began in early September with the bunches of Chardonnay, followed by Primitivo, Merlot and Cabernet. At the end of September the Susumaniello, and then finish with Nero di Troia and Aglianico in October.

The quality of the production is very high, as the heat and the right amount of rain allowed to have healthy grapes to be used for high quality production. The satisfaction of Giovanni Zullo for a year certainly of great value from the point of view of production, even if it was afflicted by the health crisis that caused sales to collapse. The HO.RE.CA. sector, in fact, is the one that has suffered most from the closures of the spring period, despite the increase in sales in July and August. The hope is that of a rapid recovery of exports that until March, before the lockdown, flew high.
